Become a Basketeer! C.S.A.

St. Fairsted Farm offers a “Basketeer” program modeled on community supported agriculture (CSA) with a twist of our own. The program operates Spring – Fall which allows flexibility for the Basketeers and farmer Ang.

Electing to become a basketeer is akin to becoming a member of a large family — being a member in the family means you are part of an ever-growing community of people who, like you, believe in the importance of locally and organically grown produce and choose to contribute to a better way of life.

Before contacting the St. Fairsted, please read “Ask your farmer” along with asking yourself the following questions:

1. Are you looking to join a CSA to save money?
You may find yourself disappointed. Smaller farms offer high quality organic produce, but often times cannot compete price-wise with organic produce on sale at your local grocery store.

2. How many nights a week do you cook?
If you answered 2-3 nights a week, a CSA may not be right for you. The sheer quantity of produce that comes in your weekly basket means that you will need to store and/or can part of your harvest, or end up building one heck of a compost pile in your backyard.

3. Is your family willing to try new things? Or are you creative enough to disguise it? (Be Honest!)
If your children squawk at anything green on their plate- I believe Sisyphus had a better chance with his boulder. Now if you enjoy being forced to try new vegetables that you would not buy or even find in many grocery stores, then you’ll love the adventure of the CSA.

4. Do you suffer from “Insectophobia”? On very rare occasions we may have a hitchhiking pest, (caterpillar, ant, etc.) make his way into a basket.

5. Are you ready to make a commitment to the farm?
Initially it sounds quite simple “pick up your basket each week at the drop site.” Unfortunately, our lives are fast-paced and plans sometimes change, so please consider noting the day of the week when your basket will be available for pick-up on your calendar, day planner, cell phone or whatever it is that keeps you on track.

6. Are you willing to contribute to the Basketeer community?
St. Fairsted does not require physical work on the farm but we do ask that you share recipes and feedback on the vegetables .  This way we can share your recipes and ideas with fellow Basketeers and also use your feedback to help improve our customer service.

If you have decided this is the program for you, please use our contact page to get in touch with Ang for further details!
